Praying can feel strange at first, especially if you didn’t grow up in a spiritual or religious environment.

When we begin a new spiritual practice, questions can often arise about whether we are doing it correctly.

There are various philosophies on prayer, but this article will focus on Neville Goddard’s philosophy.

Neville was a mystic and a renowned manifestation teacher who helped countless people change their lives through the power of imagination.

Spiritual teachers like Esther Abraham-Hicks and Dr. Wayne Dyer were heavily influenced by his work.

This article should answer questions you have about how to use prayer for manifestation.

Additionally, we’ll end with three general prayers to jump-start your prayer journey.

Let’s begin.

What is Prayer?

Prayer is defined as an earnest request for help addressed to God or an object of worship.

Think of prayer as a long-form affirmation. Instead of repeating a single phrase over and over, a prayer can be anywhere from two to five sentences or longer if you wish.

The Purpose of Prayer

The purpose of prayer is to bring your mind, body, and spirit to a state of union and harmony. It is the art of believing.

You can use prayer in many ways, as a daily gratitude practice, to ask for guidance from a higher power, wish for material or immaterial desire, healing, and more.

There are no hard-set rules. It is your sacred time. You can pray for yourself, loved ones, or humanity at large.

But this article will focus on praying when manifesting with the Law of Assumption and the Law of Attraction

Can I Manifest by Praying?

Yes, you can manifest by praying. Manifesting, in essence, is intentional living.

It is the art of harnessing your spiritual energy—your thoughts and feelings—to influence your reality and bring the formless into physical form.

The Law of Attraction states that like attracts like, and what we predominantly think about expands.

So, if your thoughts and feelings create your reality, and prayer is a tool to direct your attention, then prayer is the perfect practice to aid manifestation.

Some would argue that prayer and manifesting are one and the same.

The Correct Way to Pray, According to Neville Goddard

According to Neville Goddard, the correct way to pray is to Live In The Wish Fulfilled. Living In the State of the Wish Fulfilled means you assume you already have your desire now.

In his book Prayer: The Art of Believing, Neville mentions that “when belief and will are in conflict, belief invariably wins.”

For example, let’s say you believe you are unworthy of love. Regardless of the physical effort you put towards finding love, by The Law of Assumption, the Universe will mirror your unworthiness through the people and situations you encounter.

Yes, your assumptions are that powerful.

So, the secret to praying is to become the version of you who already has your desire by embodying the thoughts and feelings of the wish fulfilled.

You move from separation to union with your manifestation and pray as though you already possess what you are praying for.

Let me explain.

Separation with your manifestation is “I don’t have.”

Union with your manifestation is “I have.”

Instead of using prayer to hope, wish, or beg, which means “I don’t have.”

Use prayer as a time to train your subconscious mind to believe that your prayer has already been answered and realized — “I have.”

“The only condition required is that you believe that your prayers are already realized.” ~ Neville Goddard, Feeling is the Secret

For instance, let’s say you are praying for a friend’s speedy health recovery.

During prayer, pray as though your friend has already recovered. See them happy, healthy, and victorious in the present moment instead of wishing they will eventually recover.

This is Neville’s philosophy on praying in a nutshell.

Why Neville’s Philosophy on Prayer Works

Neville’s prayer philosophy works because of the Universal Law of Duality and the Law of Reversibility.

1. The Law of Polarity / Duality

If you’ve been diving into spiritual topics, I’m sure you’re well aware of the dual nature of existence. Everything in the Universe has a polarity, and opposite ends of the spectrum cannot exist without the other.

Free will and fate (determinism), good and bad, fear and love, I have and I don’t have.

If the version of you who doesn’t have your desire “I don’t have” exists, then the version of you who has your desire “I have” simultaneously exists right now. You need to align with it vibrationally or live in the wish fulfilled.

2. The Law of Reversibility

The Law of Reversibility states that “all transformations of force are reversible.” If a cause can produce an effect, then an effect can also produce a cause.

Neville uses electricity as an example: friction produces electricity, but electricity also produces friction.

By the Law of Reversibility, if a home can produce feelings of joy and accomplishment, then joy and accomplishment can also produce a home.

How to Pray: 4 Components of a Successful Prayer for Manifestation

These four components of prayer will provide a powerful structure for embodying the wish fulfilled.

1. Clarity

The first component of a successful prayer is to know clearly what you are praying for when you begin. Are you praying for confidence, a lover, your dream house, etc.? A successful prayer consists of clear thinking and feeling of the wish fulfilled.

2. Controlled Imagination

The second component of successful prayer is controlled imagination. Prayer is a mechanism to help you slow down and go inwards to build concentration and focus.  A sign of successful prayer is when you exit your prayer without seeking, doubting, or conflict.

3. Will

The third component of successful prayer is willpower. Although assumptions are more powerful than willpower, Will is also necessary to persist. The success of your prayer depends on your ability to persist in persuading yourself that your wish has been fulfilled.

4. Feeling

The fourth component of successful prayer is feeling. John Bunyan said, “In prayer, it is better to have a heart without words than words without a heart.”

Your feelings are the most important part of prayer and manifesting. More powerful than your thoughts. Remember to feel from the end state rather than just saying your prayer by rote.

For instance, if you are praying for protection, feel the energy of safety and security before you end your prayer. The richer your experience, the better.

Who Should I Pray to?

Neville Goddard believed that you are the God of your own reality. He instructed us not to pray to a God outside of ourselves but to use prayer to live in the state of the wish fulfilled. However, you can pray to whomever and use whichever name you feel comfortable with. You can pray to God, the Universe, Source Energy, Higher Power, Ultimate Creator, Spirit, Infinite Source, and Ascended Masters.

Most importantly, it is your time and connection to your internal source. So, if you are praying to an external source, make sure to say thank you for already fulfilling your desire and exit your prayer living in the end state. Your wish is not coming to you. Your wish is already here.

When Should You Pray?

While you can pray as many times as you wish throughout your day, when praying, you need to access and impress your subconscious mind.

The best times to access your subconscious mind are right after you wake up, before bed, and directly after meditations. In modern times, we call it the alpha brain wave state.

Neville calls this the State Akin to Sleep (SATS). It’s a meditative, drowsy state when your mind is relaxed and the most receptive.

How Long Does It Take for Prayer to Work?

According to a University College London Study, building a habit can take anywhere from 18 to 254 days, with an average of 66 days for most people.

However, if we’re discussing how long it takes for your subconscious mind to absorb your prayer, then this is individual.

It depends on your ability to persuade yourself that your wish is fulfilled. The quicker you can remove blockages, doubts, fears, or limiting beliefs, the faster your prayer works.

It is your ability to believe in yourself!

In the beginning, the wish fulfilled might feel false. There may be a dissonance between your current reality and your realized prayer. Don’t let that discourage you.

Keep praying, persisting, and closing the gap between you and your manifestation.

As Neville says, as you persist in the wish fulfilled, then the Universe will have no choice but to conform to your assumptions. Your Assumptions will harden into fact.

Please feel free to address your prayer to any name you wish.

Prayer for Love

Dear God, thank you for bringing my “specific person (SP)” into my life and making my dreams come true. Thank you for providing me with a person to help me understand your infinite power more and more, day by day. Each day I live with a full, expansive, and open heart. Thank you for providing me with a fun, unique, and eccentric partner who accepts me for my weirdness and all that I am. I am having so much fun on this wonderful adventure. I am eternally grateful and blessed beyond my wildest imagination. Thank you for always supporting and taking care of me.

Prayer for Abundance

From The Light of God that I Am.

From The Love of God that I Am.

From The Power of God that I Am.

From The Heart of God that I Am.

I Decree–I dwell in the midst of Infinite Abundance. The Abundance of God is my Infinite Source. The River of Life never stops flowing. It flows through me into lavish expression. Good comes to me through unexpected avenues and God works in a myriad of ways to bless me. I now open my mind to receive my good. Nothing is too good to be true. Nothing is too wonderful to have happen. With God as my Source, nothing amazes me.

I Am not burdened by thoughts of past or future. One is gone. The other is yet to come. By the power of my belief, coupled with my purposeful fearless actions and my deep rapport with God, my future is created and my abundance made manifest. I ask and accept that I am lifted in this and every moment into Higher Truth. My mind is quiet. From this day forward I give freely and fearlessly into life and Life gives back to me with magnificent increase. Blessings come in expected and unexpected ways. God provides for me in wondrous ways. I AM indeed grateful. And I let it be so.
