Did you know you have the power to change your past? Allow me to blow your mind. In this article, you’ll learn how to use Neville Goddard’s Revision Technique to change the past and manifest a new future.

First, Who Was Neville Goddard, and What Was His Main Philosophy?

Neville Goddard was a beloved Law of Attraction teacher who invented the Law of Assumption.

The Law of Assumption states that your assumptions create your reality, and what you internally assume to be true will externally play out in your life.

And generally, limiting assumptions (beliefs) because of past painful experiences holds most people back from what they desire. So, the key to changing your life is to revise your assumptions.

What is Neville Goddard’s Revision Technique?

The Revision Technique (also called Change the Past) is a manifestation technique that allows you to revise your assumptions by going back to a past memory and imagining it working out in your favor.

According to Goddard, to revise the past is to free yourself of limitations to live in a continuous state of forgiveness.

Revision = Forgiveness = Freedom = God-State

When to Use The Revision Technique

Use the Revision Technique when past situations or circumstances are holding you back from your present life, limiting you from manifesting the life you want in some way.

For instance, when you want to forgive the past, resolve old wounds, change an outcome, or let go of deeply ingrained limiting beliefs (fears, doubts, and insecurities).

Examples of Life Situations to Revise

  • A bad breakup
  • Failing school / Not getting accepted into the school you wanted
  • Hardship
  • Facing failure and rejection
  • Money debt
  • Getting fired / Not getting a promotion or raise
  • A fight with a friend
  • Yo-yo dieting
  • Receiving unwanted news

Side note: This technique is similar to a psychological therapeutic method called self-reparenting. When a past painful memory arises in a therapy session, the therapist will have the patient reparent their inner child by giving love and meeting the needs of their inner child.

So, if you have experience with self-reparenting, the revision technique will be a piece of cake! Also, if you are experiencing trauma, please speak with a mental health professional.

Revision Technique Example

Let’s say you currently struggle in social group settings, which affects your social life and negatively impacts how you manifest connections.

And in your past, you felt left out and disconnected from your peers during high school. Because of these memories, maybe you formed a limiting belief: “I am not worthy (or valuable) enough to be accepted and loved for who I am.”

You can revisit past memories or specific events to revise and alter the experience.

In your revision, you can imagine yourself getting along with your classmates, bonding, feeling a sense of social belonging, and connecting easily with your peers. Or anything else you would like to experience.

Can You Change the Past with Revision?

The answer is yes! But it’s probably not what you think. Let me explain.

When manifestors ask, does the revision technique work? Manifestors are actually wondering if the memory will be forgotten altogether.

The answer is no; you won’t forget the memory.

After revising, you will still remember the memory and can recollect how the actual event unfolded, but your feelings toward the memory will change.

What limits us in our present life is not the actual memory but what we took away from the experience.

Our emotional reactions, perceptions, and how the situation made us feel inside form our self-concept (beliefs about yourself and your relationship with the world.)

So, changing the past is really about revising your feelings toward the memory—your assumptions.

How to Use the Revision Technique to Change the Past (4 steps)

Step 1: Choose a Memory You Want to Revise

If this is your first time working with Law of Assumption techniques, keep a manifesting journal to write down your manifestations and visualizations. That way, you have a record to go back to in case you need to reflect.

The first step is to decide on a past situation you would like to revise.

Identify the limiting belief you believe the situation may have caused. Also, identify your current state of feeling towards the situation. Labeling helps some people.

If you need help understanding emotions, the Emotional Guidance Scale by Esther Abraham-Hicks is a helpful tool for manifestors.

Example: Getting fired from a job.

A situation like this may cause you to form a belief that you are not good enough or that you are undeserving of getting a job you love because of your history. And the feelings that accompany this situation could be shame, anger, and (or) resentment.

Step 2: Use the Power of Imagination to Revise the Past Memory

During your revision, imagine the scene going your way. See the events unfolding in your favor just how you would like them. Don’t hold back or limit yourself from what is possible.

Loop your scene over and over until you fall asleep or are ready to get out of the visualization.

Make your revision feel real, like it’s already happened and you are revisiting a memory. Take note of the feelings that arise.

Powerful times to impress the subconscious are before bed, in the morning, and after meditations when your mind-body is relaxed.

Neville says the best state to visualize and revise a scene is when brainwaves are in theta, in a meditative, drowsy state. He calls this the state akin to sleep (SATS).

The most potent time to access SATS is within the 10 to 15-minute window before dozing off.

***I recommend keeping your manifesting journal around the first (or few) times you revise a past situation, just in case you want to jot down notes.

Step 3: End Your Revision with Gratitude

At the end of your revision, add gratitude.

Say thank you and feel gratitude that everything happened so perfectly, just how you wanted it to. You are so grateful for everything turning out your way. Everything naturally works out for you.

Feel the feelings of gratitude so deeply right before you doze off.

Step 4: Repeat Your Visualization Until It Becomes Cemented in Your Subconscious Mind

The last step is to revise the scene every night before bed.

According to a University College London Study, building a habit takes 18 to 254 days, an average of 66 days for most people.

However, your level of belief plays a crucial role; if you believe 21 days, then 21 days.

Keep revising until it cements in your subconscious mind that it essentially becomes a memory.

Neville said the feeling is the secret, so feel the positive new feelings and become absorbed in the scene’s feelings before you doze off.

When you feel that your subconscious has received your revision and the revised memory is your new reality, let it go.

How to Revise the Day According to Neville Goddard

Neville Goddard also recommended every night to revise your day.

Every day, we encounter many different circumstances, which can build up and leave positive or negative impressions on our subconscious.

You can filter out the negative debris and only let your subconscious mind accept the positive aspects of the day. You can see this method as daily self-care or mental hygiene.

Or you can revise the entire day to the way you like it.

For instance, let’s say you would like to have more discipline and be more effective with time management

Every night, revise your day, seeing yourself focused and tackling your tasks effectively until it becomes your reality in your waking day.
