Esther Abraham-Hicks created the Emotional Guidance Scale to help us raise our vibration and aid us along our manifestation journey.

A big part of manifesting your desires is learning to identify your emotions and get into a state of allowing. Thankfully we don’t have to go from sad to joy in one day; the emotional guidance scale will help you gently raise your vibration and stabilize happiness in your life.

This article will discuss the Emotional Guidance Scale, who Abraham Hicks is, and how to use the scale to your benefit.

What is The Emotional Guidance Scale?

The Emotional Guidance Scale is a scale of 22 human emotions. It is a range of human emotions everyone possesses and will most likely experience in a lifetime. Understanding your emotional range and learning how to navigate them is the key to self-mastery and manifestation.

The scale ranges from the lowest emotions (fear, grief, depression, despair, powerlessness) and ascends to the highest (freedom, love, joy, appreciation, empowerment.)

We tend to think of our emotions as an ocean, as a sort of pool of messiness splashing around. However, with the scale of emotions, we can view our emotions as more of a spectrum or a stairway. Instead of being disorganized, we can organize our emotional process by letting go of one emotion and reaching for the next higher emotion.

But First, What is Vibration?

Vibration, in the world of spiritual manifestation, is a term used to describe the emotional quality of your overall being. It’s the energy you possess and emit into the Universe.

It stems from The Law of Vibration. Simply put, The Law of Vibration states that everything in the Universe is made of energy. That means your thoughts, emotions, and beliefs hold a vibrational frequency that dictates your behavioral patterns. Modern expressions, “high-vibe” and “good vibes,” derive from this concept.

Learning to get into vibrational alignment with your desires is a skill you’ll want to practice and hone if you are serious about up-leveling your life. Manifesting students study The Law of Attraction and The Law of Vibration at lengths to manifest the life of their desires. Both laws go hand-in-hand and are rooted in The 12 Spiritual Universal Laws.

Who is Esther Abraham-Hicks?

Ether Abraham-Hicks is a spiritual and Law of Attraction teacher. She created and popularized the concept of “getting into the vortex.” “Getting into the vortex” means getting into alignment with Source energy. Source energy is your higher power: freedom, love, joy, appreciation, and empowerment.

She teaches the importance of inner work, raising your vibration, and aligning your inner being with your desires.

You start by aligning your spiritual consciousness in 5D, ground that in your physical reality, and see external shifts in 3D physical reality.

When you align with the higher power (Source energy or any other name you want to call it), manifestation comes instantly, and well-being, peace, and happiness are a natural state.

And the Emotional Guidance Scale gives a simple, gentle, and structured way to do just that, find your way back and align with freedom, love, and joy whenever you feel out of alignment.

Pro Tip: If you want to learn more about why emotions work this way, Dr. David R. Hawkins spent 30 years scientifically researching the scales of emotions and spirituality. He proves that higher vibrations emit a higher frequency. Please read my article on Dr. David R. Hawkins’ Map of Consciousness here.

How to Use the Emotional Guidance Scale: 6 Ways

She splits the scale into 2 parts: an upward spiral and a downward spiral. The shifting point is at number 8, boredom. Everything above 8 is an upward spiral of emotions, and everything below 8 is a downward spiral.

Like when a bad day gets worse or a good day gets better. Like attracts like energy, so stewing in negative energy causes a ripple effect and creates a downward spiral, and focusing on positive thoughts and emotions causes upward momentum.

1. Raise your Vibration

Oftentimes, an unwanted situation occurs, we feel negative emotions, and we can start to judge ourselves and feel even worse for having such feelings. Using the Emotional Guidance Scale, you can become aware of your thoughts and emotions and acknowledge them.

For instance, when you start feeling pessimism, instead of indulging in pessimism which, as Esther Abraham-Hicks puts it, causes a downward spiral. If you dwell in pessimism, it leads you to the emotions below it: frustration, irritation, and impatience.

Instead, acknowledge and understand your pessimism. Then find thoughts and emotions that match the vibration above it: boredom. Find activities that help raise your vibration, like self-care activities such as taking a bath, going to the museum, hanging out with supportive friends, etc.

The trick is not to avoid or suppress your emotions because, in the long run, you’ll give your feelings more power, and it will get messy.

Work on stabilizing boredom, continue reaching for the next and work your way up the scale. Step-by-step.

Here’s a great video where she explains the technique:

2. Identify Emotions for Manifesting

One essential skill in manifesting is identifying your emotions.

Societal programming teaches us the DO-HAVE-BE model. We have to DO something to HAVE something to BE someone. Spiritual teachers teach the opposite. They switch the paradigm to BE-DO-HAVE. You BE (the vibration of your desire) first, and then you DO (inspired action) to HAVE something.

With conscious manifestation, you state your goal and pinpoint the intention behind it. The intention is your emotion. And you work on creating your internal environment.

3. Focus on Stabilizing the Higher Emotions

If you’ve never felt feelings such as joy, bliss, happiness, and freedom, it might seem like an impossible emotion for one to ever experience. I’ve been there. You might not even know how to get there because of a lack of experience.

These are real emotions that people experience daily, and you can experience them too for the rest of your life. And the crazy thing is, it’s already inside you, waiting to be discovered and opened up.

Trust the process, let go of the lower emotions, and gradually build on your feelings until you reach joy. Make decisions that are in alignment with emotions that cause an upward spiral. It requires intimate work and getting to know your internal atmosphere, so it is a process. Be patient and trust.

4. Reflection and Emotional Check-ins

Another helpful way to use the Emotional Guidance Scale is daily, weekly, or monthly check-ins. Creating a mood reflection ritual is beneficial to see that emotions constantly flow through you and are everchanging.

You can gauge your overall temperature about a situation. For instance, you’ve been frustrated with a relationship or a job. Doing weekly check-ins, you might find that you have more good days than bad days or vice versa. Use your mood check-ins to make informed choices about important life decisions.

5. Your Emotions are Messages

Sometimes we overidentify with our emotions. Yes, emotions are us on one level, but we are much deeper than our emotions. Emotions are something we have and carry but are not actually the real us.

Emotions are messengers and clues to discern what’s right or wrong for us. Learn how to navigate and understand them in a way that makes sense for you. Is it better to surrender an emotion and let go of it, or is the emotion telling you to make changes and take action?

Does this job make me feel good, or does it drain me? Or am I draining my energy because I see everything in a negative light? Use your emotions as messengers and begin an open dialogue.

6. Finding Yourself at the Bottom of the Scale

If you find yourself at the bottom of the scale, it’s important not to be too hard on yourself. Experiencing grief is overwhelming, and we can get engulfed by our feelings and not know how to navigate them. The dark night of the soul or ego death is one experience that can feel daunting.

If you are in despair, reaching for joy will feel false. Expecting yourself to feel something polar opposite is unreasonable and might make you angrier at yourself if you can’t. Instead, reach for the emotion above it. Seek counseling or professional help to take care of yourself.
