First, who is Sadhguru?

Sadhguru, born Jagadish Vasudevn in Mysore, India (home of Ashtanga yoga), is an Indian yogi, mystic, and bestselling author.

In case you didn’t know, he’s the yogi who rides motorcycles and wears cool eyewear.

The story goes that Sadhguru was an ambitious businessman. Around 25 years old, he went to his usual hangout, a rock on Chamundi Hill in Mysore, but this time he had a spiritual awakening.

He was blissed out and crying for what felt like 5 to 10 minutes. When he regained consciousness, he realized it actually lasted about 5 hours.

These spiritual experiences continued for about six weeks, and he was totally changed. From then on, he followed a dharmic path.

Sadhguru feels a tremendous responsibility to teach classical Hatha yoga in its original form.

Currently, he travels worldwide, teaching yogic principles, promoting the Isha foundation, and answering existential questions to his audience.

Suddenly you will feel the breeze, the rain, the flowers and the people, everything in a completely different way. Suddenly the life in you becomes much more active and alive for your experience.” ~ Sadhguru

“When I say spiritual, I am talking about you beginning to experience that which is not physical. Once this spiritual dimension is alive, once you start experiencing yourself beyond the limitations of the physical and the mental, only then there’s no such thing as fear. Fear is just the creation of an overactive and out-of-control mind.” ~ Sadhguru

“Confidence and stupidity are a very dangerous combination, but they generally go together.” ~ Sadhguru

“One of the biggest problems in the world today is loneliness. It is quite incredible. The planet is teeming with seven billion people, but people are lonely! If someone enjoys being alone, there is no problem at all. But most people are suffering because of it! They are going through serious psychological problems as a consequence. If you are lonely, it is because you have chosen to become an island unto yourself. It doesn’t have to be this way. “I am not responsible” makes you unwilling to get along with anyone—until you can’t even get along with yourself. It often comes to a point when you believe you are not even responsible for what is happening within yourself!” ~ Sadhguru

“Money is definitely needed, but how much money do we really need? If we would change our idea of a successful life to a joyful life, we would find our need for money would dramatically decrease.” ~ Sadhguru

“The most incredible thing is that you can know everything you wish to know with your eyes closed.” ~ Sadhguru

“Responsibility simply means your ability to respond.” ~ Sadhguru

“If terrible things have happened to you, you ought to have grown wise. If the worst possible events have befallen you, you should be the wisest of the lot. But instead of growing wise, most people become wounded. In a state of conscious response, it is possible to use every life situation—however ugly—as an opportunity for growth. But if you habitually think, “I am the way I am because of someone else,” you are using life situations merely as an opportunity for self-destruction or stagnation.” ~ Sadhguru

“If you handle your entire life with logic alone, you will end up a mess.” ~ Sadhguru

“Why do we refer to the mind as a circus? A circus is not a mess; a circus is a very coordinated activity deliberately made to look like a mess. On one level it is a mess, but on another, it is a highly coordinated activity.” ~ Sadhguru

“But when it comes to the inner situation, there is only one ingredient: you. At least you must happen the way you want.” ~ Sadhguru

“When we talk of “exploring the mystical,” we are not trying to dig into creation, because if you dig into creation, it will only get more complex. It will not bring clarity; it will only bring more complexity. That is why the yogis looked in a different direction. We looked inward. If you look inward, a different dimension opens up. Now instead of things getting more complex, you get to clarity. It is because of this that we say that those who look inward have a third eye. They see things that others cannot see. They have brought a new clarity to life.” ~ Sadhguru

“Mysticism is like pure science; it has no use. Mysticism is just the human longing to know… Occult is not science. Occult is just technology.” ~ Sadhguru

“Pain or pleasure, joy or misery, agony or ecstasy, happens only inside you. Human folly is that people are always trying to extract joy from the outside. You may use the outside as a stimulus or trigger, but the real thing always comes from within.” ~ Sadhguru

“In the Indian culture you never told your parents, your wife, your husband or your children, “I love you.” This was not a part of this culture because the moment you say it, it’s almost like it’s not there. You’re only trying to assert it. Love is not an assertion. Love is a supplication. An asserting mind can never be a loving mind.” ~ Sadhguru

“What is happening within you and how you experience your life is entirely your making – your karma.” ~ Sadhguru

“Enlightenment is not an attainment or an achievement. It is a homecoming. Your senses give you the impression that you are experiencing the outside, but you have never experienced the outside. When you realize that all that you experience is within, that absolute homecoming is enlightenment.” ~ Sadhguru

“Only if you know to what extent your logic should go and where it should not go, your life will be beautiful.” ~ Sadhguru

“Your mind need not be controlled; your mind needs to be liberated.” ~ Sadhguru

“You cannot choose a Guru. Deepen your longing and the Guru will choose you,” ~ Sadhguru

“If you are forming relationships to seek happiness – you trying to squeeze happiness out of someone and that person trying to squeeze happiness out of you – this is going to be a painful relationship after some time.” ~ Sadhguru

“Reactivity is enslavement. Responsibility is freedom. When you are able to create yourself the way you want, you can create your life the way you want as well. Your outer life may not be a hundred percent in your control, but your inner life always will.” ~ Sadhguru

“Life should touch you, even if life smothers you, it’s better than remaining untouched by life” ~ Sadhguru

“I am not here to speak the Truth. I am here just to give you a method to perceive it.” ~ Sadhguru

“Unless you begin to see the hollowness of where you are right now, you will not begin to seek something else strongly.” ~ Sadhguru

“A human is not a being; he is a becoming. He is an ongoing process, nothing is fixed.” ~ Sadhguru

“People on the spiritual path are people of unquenchable discontent. It is being propagated that spirituality means contentment. Contentment means you have contented yourself with what you have. A spiritual person means he is unwilling to settle for anything less than the Ultimate.” ~ Sadhguru

“I couldn’t help noticing that people coming out of restaurants always had more joyful faces than those coming out of temples. That intrigued me.” ~ Sadhguru

“There is no such thing as ego; it is empty talk. The nasty part of you, you call it ego. Whenever you get nasty, you don’t want to see, “It is me who is nasty.” You want to say, “Oh, it is my ego.” This is another way of passing the buck. There is no ego. There is just you, and you, loid and you alone.” ~ Sadhguru

“Literally, yoga means “union.” When you are in yoga, it means that in your experience, everything has become one. This is the essence of the science. This is also its deepest aim.” ~ Sadhguru

“Peace and joy are the basic requirements for a life of well-being.” ~ Sadhguru

“True human capabilities will not find expression in competition. True human capabilities will find expression only in absolute relaxation. Your mind, your body will work best, will find the fullest expression, only when you are joyful and peaceful, and quiet within yourself.” ~ Sadhguru

“but being on the spiritual path is not about making life pleasant. It’s about seeing how to transcend both the pleasant and the unpleasant.” ~ Sadhguru

“People are even beginning to think that fear is a natural part of their existence. No. Fear is a result of the incompleteness of your existence. “There are many ways to understand this. One simple way to know this is: today, if you lose your mental peace totally, you will go to a doctor. He will give you a pill. If you take this pill, your system will become peaceful. Maybe this will last just for a few hours, but you become peaceful. This pill is just a little bit of chemicals. These chemicals enter your system and make you peaceful. Or in other words, what you call peace is a certain kind of chemistry within you. Similarly, what you call joy, what you call love, what you call suffering, what you call misery, what you call fear, every human experience that you go through, has a chemical basis within you. Now the spiritual process is just to create the right kind of chemistry, where you are naturally peaceful, naturally joyous. When you are joyous by your own nature, when you don’t have to do anything to be happy, then the very dimension of your life, the very way you perceive and express yourself in the world will change. The very way you experience your life will change.” ~ Sadhguru
