What is Neville Goddard’s Breathing Technique?

The Breathing Technique is a Law of Assumption manifestation technique that mimics a sexual act. You combine breathwork with an imaginary scene of already having your desire (state of the wish fulfilled) ending in a peak explosive breath.

The breathwork portion imitates the slow and gradual progression toward a sexual climax, and the last explosive breath represents the peak, while the visualization creates good feelings from the state of the wish fulfilled.

Neville advises only doing this technique once for any desire.

The reason is that you can never repeat the same climax. Every climax is an impregnation of creation and can only happen once, and it’s finished.

So once you’ve visualized your desire, your creative visualization has taken its pregnancy.

All you have to do now is let your desire go and leave the rest to the Universe.

Step 1: Claim Your Desire

The first step is to claim your desire and decide it’s yours.

Claim your desire by writing it down in a manifestation journal. Writing your desires down begins physicalizing your wishes in the material world.

Example: manifesting a new dream job

Be as clear and specific as possible. Write in your manifestation journal as if you already have your desire.

For example, “I got hired at Apple as a Product Designer!”

Step 2: Prepare Your Visualization

Step two is to prepare your imaginary scene (state of the wish fulfilled). Skip this step if you already have an imaginary scene for a manifestation.

Back to the above example of manifesting a dream job: I got hired at Apple as a Product Designer!

We’ll construct a scene using Neville’s Congratulations Technique. This manifestation technique is perfect for manifesting a new dream job.

Construct a scene of someone you love supporting you and congratulating you.

Imaginary Scene Example: Let’s say your husband is the person who congratulates you. You walk into your house and tell your husband, the incredible news of receiving the job at Apple. And immediately, you both jump for joy and embrace.

See the details of his persona: his cadence, his reaction, his embrace, his smell, and his quirks. What does it feel like to have your dream job? Really take in that moment of you guys rejoicing. Feel the emotions of your visualization and internalize them.

Whatever it is, as long as your scene feels real, it takes the tones of reality and gets you into the state of the wish fulfilled.

Step 3: Get Your Body and Mind Relaxed

Step three is to slow down your mind and body and clear out thoughts, negative energy, or any internal conflict.

Find a comfortable sitting position of your choice. If you want to do a quick meditation before this exercise and get into SATS, you can choose to do so.

SATS stands for State Akin to Sleep, Neville’s term for a sleepy, drowsy, meditative state, equivalent to theta brainwave state. Learn more about State Akin to Sleep (SATS) here.

Step 4: Imagine Your Desire Fulfilled

Step four is to imagine the scene of the wish fulfilled you chose for this exercise.

According to Neville, the best scenes are one-act scenes that you loop over and over until the feelings of the scenes take tones of reality.

One-act scenes are so your mind doesn’t wander or get distracted.

Do the scene once and begin looping the scene.

Step 5: Include the Breathing Technique

Step five is to continue to loop the scene and begin bringing attention to your breath.

Inhale and exhale.

Start your breath at a slow pace, rev up to a quicker pace, and keep accelerating the speed of your breath until you can’t go any faster.

You can set your rhythm and tempo to anything you like.

Step 6: The Final Explosion

Step six is when you’ve gotten yourself up to the fastest speed possible; take one last inhale.

Then, on the last exhale, let that breath explode.

Step 8: Assume Your Desire is Fulfilled

Now you’re finished! The last explosive exhale fuels the outcome of your desire, and your creative visualization takes its pregnancy.

Let go of your desire and leave the rest to the Universe. It’s essential for this technique to only do it once, as per Neville.

Who Was Neville Goddard, and What Was His Main Philosophy?

Neville Goddard was a beloved Law of Attraction teacher from the 1930s who taught the Law of Assumption, which states that your assumptions harden into fact.

Your assumptions create your reality, and what you internally assume to be true manifests in your external reality.

Neville wholeheartedly believed that a person could manifest a new reality through the power of imagination.

He advocated that to change your life, you must fully turn your attention away from the external world and focus completely on changing your inner world.

Below is a list of Neville’s concepts to help you change your assumptions to change your reality.
